Taj Mahal Wheat Halwa is probably one of the most popular sweet items from Mangalore. Taj Mahal Cafe was started in 1926 as a small hotel by Shri. Kudpi Gopal Krishna Shenoy. The sweet shop was a later addition and is about 50 years old now. They manufacture their own sweets with traditional recipes in factory nearby.
Taj Mahal Wheat Halwa is prepared with pure ghee and is one of the most carried sweet items as a souvenir from Mangalore.
The other famous variant of this is the Banana Halwa.
