What is Bafat Masala?
Bafat is a traditional Mangalorean blend of spices, commonly made with a mixture of dried and ground chilli peppers, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, black peppercorn, turmeric, cinnamon, and cloves. It is used as an all-purpose seasoning in Mangalorean Catholic cuisine. Though it is regarded as a pork seasoning, it can also be used to season other meats or vegetables. So versatile that it can be used in anything from chicken to chickpeas.
The history of Bafat Masala goes back to the Portuguese era. The taste is a unique combination of Indian and Portuguese flavors.
