Shri Purohit Belagavi Kunda

150.00 / 250 gms

Belagavi Kunda or Belgaum Kunda is a sweet dish from Karnataka that is made of thick condensed milk. The process involves boiling the milk with the right quantity of khowa and sugar for the right amount of time. The milk has to be continuously stirred while boiling to ensure the right consistency is achieved.  Kunda is perfect for an evening snack and it tastes great when it is had hot.

The story behind the “invention” or “discovery” (whatever you wish to call) of Belagavi Kunda is a bit funny. Belgaum had a lot of Marwadi sweet makers and Jakku Marwadi was one of them. Once Jakku Marwadi put the milk on the stove and forgot to turn it off. After a long time when he realized, the milk had turned almost solid and was sweet to taste. He mixed khowa to this and slowly started to boil the mixture. This turned out to be an excellent tasting sweet and has been done the same traditional way ever since.  (source:
